They want to do better. They have expectations for their kids. \u00a0They get frustrated when their children don\u2019t live up to those expectations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They are worn down because they work all day to take care of their families. \u00a0They try hard to make sure that their children have everything that they need.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They feel bad that they can\u2019t do enough, or that they just aren\u2019t enough for their children.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So it\u2019s not surprising that we lose it every once in a while.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bad parents don\u2019t feel those things. \u00a0Bad parents don\u2019t try. \u00a0Bad parents don\u2019t feel the guilt. \u00a0They don\u2019t get run down trying to do it all.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Because we are good parents, we work so hard and feel so much guilt and frustration that we get <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">overwhelmed frustrated and angry.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Good parents feel so many emotions, including anger, and bad parents don\u2019t.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I Am Permanently Damaging My Children?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Oh the guilt of shouting can be so heavy. We know it\u2019s not good for our kids, and there are articles after articles online telling us so.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In every healthy relationship there\u2019s a balance between positive moments and negative moments. \u00a0There have been studies and they show that for every negative moment, we need five positive interactions to keep the relationship healthy and in balance. These studies were done with couples, but have been applied to the parent\/child relationship as well.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Positive interactions can be small, a smile, a touch, small gestures. \u00a0I bet you do a lot of those small gestures with your children throughout the day.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>We are all going to get angry and do things that we aren\u2019t so proud of, it\u2019s how we make up for those things that count.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The trick is to keep things in balance. \u00a0If you feel like you need help with this, check out myth #5 below.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Don\u2019t believe these myths about shouting.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You ARE a good parent.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You are NOT permanently damaging your children.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You are NOT the only one who shouts.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You CAN stop shouting.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But you might shout again, and that\u2019s okay.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Shouting does not make a someone a terrible parent. \u00a0I bet that most people shout because they are good parents.
